Hadleyburg's Time is Now

The themes and values that Hadleyburg examines are as valid today as they were in 1899 when Mark Twain wrote his short story.  Maybe more valid.  It explores hypocrisy, vanity, the nature of virtue, and the corrupting influence of greed, all while showcasing Twain’s sharp wit and cynical view of human character.
“Ev’rythin’s up to date in Kansas City.
They’ve gone about as fur as they c’n go!”
And here in Kansas City, we’ve gone about as far as we can go.  It’s time to present Hadleyburg to the New York theatrical community.
And the best way to do that is with a 29 Hour Equity Reading.  It’s an incredible opportunity to see how the show will work with an audience in real time.
But to make that happen, we need your help!
Who doesn’t enjoy a little “corruption?”  Make Hadleyburg’s corruption public by supporting our 29 Hour Reading!  Please contribute what you can to our GoFundMe campaign by clicking on the button below.

Why a New York Reading?

Creating a stage musical is a long and complex undertaking.  An author doesn’t know how the show will actually play until it is in front of a real audience.  A “29-Hour Reading” is a reading of a play or musical, typically for developmental purposes, where the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) allows Equity members to participate for a maximum of 29 hours of rehearsal and performance within a 14-day period, without a full Equity contract.  This is often a very important first step in getting a musical on the road to Broadway.
